I agree with Lord here.
Most people from New England masochistically choose to cheer for a perennial loser. It goes back to the region's egalitarian Puritanical roots and Matthew 5:5 -- "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."
The Yankees (and most NY teams for that matter) have a winning tradition, so drawing that comparison is as much an insult to the Yankees as it is to Boston.
A yard sale draws a bigger crown than a Boston College home game. They don't even count.
In what will no doubt anger both sides, the facts are this, with the Red Sox winning World Series, the Patriots winning Super Bowls, and the Celtics having the best record in the NBA, people (including myself) enjoy cheering against Boston teams much like people used to enjoy cheering against the Yankees when they were winning World Series titles.

I will forgive you this once , but never compare Boston sports to the Yankees again. Other Boston fans may not be as forgiving. The only Boston sports I permit you to make fun of or call rude names is BC because I'm from New England and even I hate BC.
