Don't be a Yellow Tail

Posted 2 years ago by Bear

Slate has an interesting story about the decline of the Australian wine industry. They cited two big reasons for the decline.

  1. Yellow Tail and copycats of Yellow Tail became so popular the wine drinking public associated Australian wines with "cut rate" wines.
  2. The higher end wines all started copying a style of wine (ultraripe, high-alcohol, extravagantly oaked shirazes) and this style has become less popular in recent years.

The moral of the story, don't sell yourself too cheap and don't copy the popular trends.
