2006 net income: $12,599,000,000. That sounds like a lot of reasons why patents are worth it.

Microsoft stopped making good products in 1993 and has rested on their laurels ever since. $12.6 billion monopolistically fleeced from the world is worth the trouble for Bill Gates, but what about you and me? Don't tell me you've paid full price for every "license" of Windows you've ever used.
