The AV Club's "My Year of Flops" takes on the misunderstood and genius movie Dirty Work. Nathan does a pretty good of explaining why I love the movie:
In its hilarious first half, Dirty Work embodies a curious cinematic subgenre I’m beginning to suspect exists only in my mind: the ironic dumb comedy, the slyly postmodern lowbrow gag-fest that so lustily, nakedly embraces and exposes the machinations and conventions of stupid laffers that it becomes a sort of sublime bit of meta-comedy.
Let it also be said, Chevy Chase's role as the doctor with a serious gambling problem is perfection. Chase's delivers every line with exacting comic timing. He improves the movie by a multiple of three.
Interesting to know Chevy Chase used to play drums. His greatest comedic gift is certainly his timing. Makes sense that he would be a drummer as well.
"I know there's really nobody to blame for this but myself, well, I don't know, maybe the Buffalo Bills, the Boston Red Sox, or Mr. T or, or the Jets..."
I just watched this movie for the first time, and I'm glad I did.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Interesting connection . . . Chevy Chase once played drums for a band called The Bad Rock Group (later called The Leather Canary) with Donald Fagan and Walter Becker, the two of who later formed Steely Dan, which in 1972 relased the album Can't Buy a Thrill which contained a song called . . . you guessed it "Dirty Work"
Just though you should know.
