My favorite part of the Good Eats Behind the Eats episode is the brief insight Alton Brown provides in to how he writes the episodes. His basic process is do a bunch of research and then read and reread the research until "inspiration" strikes. Alton and OrangeCoat share a similar view of creativity. Research and hard work equals creativity.
That's a fair enough statement. Certainly one of the most important traits of a creative person is a curious mind. Everything else seems to fall into place after that trait is nurtured.

I think it can be taken even further than just that "research and hardwork equals creativity." Research is the basis for expanding knowledge and so really the end goal of researching is to come out knowing more than you did when you went in. Researching is already part fo the hard work. Thus really I think the idea needs to be that the desire to know more, paired with the hard work of learning it, and then finding appropriate ways to apply the learned knowledge combines to create the whole creative package.
