I think I agree with everything written by both Lord and Olivier on Cloverfield. I will only add the motion sickness created by the movie almost brought me to hurl. You might want to take motion sickness medication before watching the movie.
I couldn't agree more about taking motion sickness pills. The moving camera completely ruined the movie for me.
The movie itself didn't bother me while I was watching it. It wasn't until afterward -- driving home -- that I felt queezy.
I also think it worth mentioning that Cloverfield was a heavy mix between Stephen King's The Mist plus Godzilla and to a lesser extent, maybe Aliens, The Thing and Independence Day

The Blair Witch made me seasick as hell. Half way through, I had to look away and watch the screen peripherally.
I was ready for a similar experience with Cloverfield, but i was luckily spared. No motion sickness at all.
By the way, my wife actually thought that the monster was going to be a giant bunny rabbit. I am not even joking right now.
