In an effort to stop the voices in my head (aka: Adam "BA" Howell), I signed up for CSS Reboot, which is a biennial webdesign orgy showcase and (hopefully) back-patting festival. Come May 1st, OrangeCoat.com will have a new look unveiled to the world via CSS Reboot.
Now all I have to do is deliver a fresh new handsome-looking standards-compliant CSSified semantically correct frontend web design for the chopping block.
I can smell the coffee brewing already.
Still not sure if the new look will be a drastic departure or simply a tweak of what's already there. Thoughts are especially welcome at this phase, so comment if you got'em.
Jim: Thanks for the feedback. I like your new site. On the landing page though you should make those links (blog, photography, portfolio) with real text instead of images. It'd be cleaner and easier to maintain. I'd style something like:
h1 a {
color: #FFF;
font: 1.4em "Trebuchet MS", Arial, sans-serif;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
text-decoration: none;
}
h1 a:hover {
color: #EF6509;
text-decoration: underline;
}
...
<h1><a href='...' title='Link to my sweet-ass blog'>Blog</a></h1>
Hey, while you're at it, I'll take an overhaul on my site too.
Thanks.
Make sure it has orange in it.
You've got my email.
;-)
You definitely need to hire the most kickass photographer known to man (and woman), for starters.
Oli: Was there supposed to be a "cough cough" at the end of that statement?
ahem.
Deal.
ka-POW!
"Hey, while you’re at it, I’ll take an overhaul on my site too."
Jermey, we'd be happy to overhaul your site-
What's your budget looking like
$15,000 -- $20,000? ;)
We'll even give you a 10% Clemson discount.
**Note: The Clemson Discount only applies to joke offers and is, in no way, a real offer to other Clemson owned businesses.
I'll give you a Snicker's bar a soda of your choice.
That's about all I can afford.
I'm actually working on a "realignment" of the site (see...sounds professional, right?) and it's going slow.
Teaching myself CSS and making it work is a pain.
Being creative enough to add good design...is more of a pain.
Hats off to those in the design world who make this stuff work.

I like the current OrangeCoat.com. I'm a big fan of lots of white space. I like how the site is interactive, yet easy to navigate.
I know what you mean about reworking a website. I just gave my Clemson site a long overdue facelift. Good luck with the changes. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the reboot.
